Looking back on BuddyPro's journey, I feel immense pride at how far we've come in a short time. BuddyPro was never just an idea -- it was a solution to a system that wasn't working. When we started in 2017, I already had over ten years of experience in international retail, where I worked with the owners behind Media Markt, a company established in over 17 markets.
I saw early on that future transactions will take place much more in customers' homes. We are in the midst of a historic transformation. The market is changing rapidly, and we clearly see how 34 major trends are shaping the service economy of the future. Four of the most significant trends driving demand for our platform are:
The proportion of elderly people is increasing sharply, and with it the need for help in everyday life. In Sweden, the proportion of the population aged over 75 is expected to increase by 28 per cent by 2040. Already today, over 344,000 people over the age of 65 have an ongoing social services effort, and that figure is only going to grow.
Technology is advancing faster than ever. From Sonos systems and smart washing machines to connected home appliances, consumers simply don't have time. More knowledgeable staff is required to install, maintain and troubleshoot these advanced solutions.
Generation Z and Millennials often lack both interest and knowledge for practical work at home. Studies show 21% of Generation Z can't even identify a wrench, and almost a quarter of young adults in the UK don't know how to change a ceiling light. That creates a growing demand for expert help for even the most basic household chores.
The job market is changing. More people are choosing to work independently or combine several different assignments instead of having a traditional employment. That's when I realized we needed to build something bigger -- a platform that gave self-employed and small business owners the tools to meet the needs of the future with a complete, customized solution.
Through TechBuddy, TaskRunner and BuddyCompany, we have built and run service companies ourselves. We have experienced exactly what it takes to scale up, what slows growth and what is missing from today's solutions. We saw how skilled professionals — technicians, service providers and tradesmen — spent more time on administration than on what they were actually best at. The problem was never a lack of skills or demand -- it was inefficient systems, outdated tools and time-consuming processes that held them back.
But BuddyPro is about something even bigger. For me, this is more than just a technical platform — it's a mission.
Everything we build is designed to strengthen local entrepreneurship, because we know that it leads to sustainable development for every local community, creates jobs and at the same time delivers value through high customer satisfaction.
This is something that is close to my heart, because I grew up watching my parents — immigrants with many skills and a great willingness to work — struggle to make their way into welfare and society. Although they had the skills and drive, they lacked the right opportunities and tools to use their knowledge and build something of their own. This is exactly what we want to change with BuddyPro. We are building a platform that not only streamlines, but also enables more people to create their own future.
